Resolution specifies the size of the individual picture elements (pixels) in the photograph of your property. With higher resolution, more detail can be seen. The photographs below can help you determine what resolution you need for your project. When each dot of the photograph represents two feet (24 inches) of a scene, even fairly large objects like cars become indistinct. This resolution, though, is ideal for presenting large properties. Roadways and terrain features show up just fine.

One foot resolution is an industry standard for large imagery databases like Google.Earth. At this resolution, cars are easily recognized, large shrubs and trees are easy to see.​

This is a great resolution for mapping moderate sized projects. Cars are distinct from trucks, power poles and fence lines are visible, road markings are generally legible.​​

This is getting close. You can probably identify the brand of cars on the road. Power lines and fences show clearly. People are clearly visible. Markings and repairs on roadways are distinct.
